Cut

2008 · pencil, digital · 10 x 15 in

I drew this after reading an article in the New York Times titled A Cutting Tradition, by Sara Corbett, about the practice of female circumcision that is traditional in parts of Indonesia and Africa. It strikes me as an archaic, brutal ritual that is unnecessary and ought to be forbidden in today's world. I wanted to make an image that advocates putting an end to it.
